19 REASON FOR START BLOGGING

1. It helps you learn new thingsBlogging is about sharing what you see, or want to see, in the world. It’s about teaching or sharing what you know and what you, too, are learning. When you start a blog, you’ll find yourself always learning new things about your areas of interest so you can keep sharing without running dryof ideas.Think of it this way: when you set outto wash clothes, your objective is to clean the clothes, not your hands, but it’s your hands which become clean first.

2. It makes you think clearerThe ability to think clearly and generate ideas is one of life’s most critical skills, yet one of the things you don’t get taught in school. Blogging fills that void, helping you grow your thinking muscles exponentially. You’ll learn to reflect deeply on your life, your relationships and your society; engage with others intellectually, appreciate the strengths in arguments and point out the flaws in them; appreciate the tiny distinctions betweenwhat, whyandhow;the nexus and disparity betweenexcusesandjustifications, and so on.

3. It helps you speak more coherentlyA great speech starts with a sound script. The more you learn and shareideas about your areas of interests on your blog, the more comfortable you get discussing them verbally. And over time, you grow confidence to face an audience and manage your nervousness on your subjects of interest. Soon, this diffuses to other verbal conversations.

.4.  It can make you moneyEarning decent incomes from your blog is attainable once you create value with, and grow an audience around, it. Many big blogs make millions of dollars every year. And me? I’m not a millionaire but I’vemade tens of thousands of dollars from blogging over the years. And I’ve done that while having ample time for my family and other engagements I enjoy.

5.  It can help you aid good causesWhether it’s bringing drinkable waterto more people, supporting the education of orphans or building schools for poor communities, blogging can help you lend a helping hand to great causes you believe in.

6.  To Stay Connected with Friendsand FamilyThe world has shrunk since the Internet has become more accessible. Blogs provide a simple way for family and friends to stay connected from differentparts of the world by sharing stories, photos, videos and more.

7.  To Establish Yourself as an ExpertBlogs are wonderful tools to help bloggers establish themselves as experts in a field or topic. For example, if you're trying to get a job in a specific field or hoping to publish a book on a specific topic, blogging can help legitimize your expertise and expand your online presence and platform.

8.  To Market or Promote SomethingBlogging is a great way to help market or promote yourself or your business, product or service.

9.Money. You should not start a blog to make money. We need to get that out of the way first. If your primary objective is to replace your full-time income from blogging, forget about it. It doesn’t work that way. Do you think that Jimi Hendrix picked up his first guitar so he could “supplement his income”? No, he didn’t. Rather, he did it for the love of it, for the joy and fulfillment he received, and the income came thereafter, much later actually.

10.Notoriety. Don’t plan on getting “Internet famous” right away. Not every site grows as fast as ours did, but that’s totally OK. The truth is thatwe kind of got lucky. We got a great domain name, somehow cobbled together a logo and site design that people really liked, we write fairly well, and our content connects with people in a unique way. We didn’t start this site to become “famous” though. That’d be ridiculous. Our notoriety and quick rise to “fame,” asit were, came as a surprise to us, andwas a result of a little luck and a lot of hard, passionate work.

10.Traffic. Not all traffic is good traffic (as we explainedhere), so don’t worry about getting thousands of readers right away.

11.Social Media. Yes, we recommend usingTwitterandFacebookto help connect with readers and other bloggers, but don’t get too caught up in it. Focus on the writing first, social media thereafter..

12.Time. Once you’ve learned how to start a blog, you’ll learn that bloggingtakes a lot of time, especially if you’re as neurotic as we are (we spent over 10 hours testing the fontson this site). And see those black Twitter and Facebook icons in the header? We spent four hours on those). That said, once you have your design set up, don’t tweak it toomuch, spend the time on your writing..

13.Be Original. Yes, there are other blogs out there about the same thingyou want to write about. Question: So why is your blog any different? Answer: Because ofyou.Youare what makesyourblog different; it’s aboutyourperspective, yourcreativity, the value thatyouadd.5.Be Interesting. Writeepic, awesomecontent. Especially if you want people to share it with others..

14. You’ll become a better writer. At its core, writing is communication. It is about recording thoughts on paperand compelling others to agree with them. To that end, writing (just like every other form of communication that has ever existed) improves with practice. Blogging will not force you to become a better writer, it’ll just happen as you do it. And becoming abetter writer holds important benefits for the rest of your life—whether you are creating a book, a presentation, a résumé, or ananniversary card for your spouse.

15. You’ll become a better thinker.Because the process of writing includes recording thoughts on paper, the blogging process encourages you to stop and think deeper. You will delve deeper into the matters of your life and the worldview that shapes them. Unfortunately, at this point, many willchoose not to blog (or write at all) based on the faulty reasoning that they “have nothing to say.” But to that line of thinking I always respondthe same way, maybe you just haven’t discovered yet what you have to say.

16.You’ll live a more intentional life.Once you start writing about your lifeand the thoughts that shape it, you’ll begin thinking more intentionally about who you are, who you are becoming, and whether you like whatyou see or not. And that just may be reason enough to get started.

17. You’ll develop an eye for meaningful things.By necessity, blogging requires a filter. It’s simply not possible to write about every event, every thought, and every happening in your life. Instead, blogging is a never-ending process of choosing to articulate the most meaningful events and the most important thoughts. This process of choice helps you develop an eye for meaningful things. And remember that sometimes the most meaningfulthings appear in the most mundane—but you’ll see what I mean once you get started.

18. It’ll lead to healthier life habits.Blogging requires time, devotion, commitment, and discipline. And just to be clear, those are all good things to embrace – they will help you get the most out of your days and life. Since beginning to blog, I have become an early riser, a runner, and can now properly identify my favorite drink at Starbuck’s (Caramel Macchiato). And even if those three habits don’t personally appeal to you, blogging will provide opportunity for new life habits to emerge in yours.

19. You’ll meet new people.Whether itbe through comments, e-mails, or social media, you may be surprised at how quickly you meet people on-line. And by meet people, I mean legitimately form relationships that seek to serve one another. The blogging community is friendly, encouraging, and genuinely cheeringfor you to succeed—the only thing missing is you.
